What is the difference between a forged and a cast frame?
Forging = steel is shaped from a solid billet under pressure (hydraulic hammer). The grain direction of the steel promotes strength; no micro-cracks. Casting = steel is melted and poured into a mould, cools chaotically, micro-cracks in the structure. Under heavy load (a seized ball joint = 5–10 tonnes of pressing force) a cast frame snaps suddenly — the tool flies, sometimes the operator is struck. A forged frame holds. For professional work, forging is the market standard.
What is DANA 44?
DANA 44 is the American standard for 4WD front axles used in off-road vehicles since 1958 to the present day: Ford F-150/F-250, Bronco, Chevrolet/GMC Blazer, Suburban, Dodge Ram, Jeep Wrangler (TJ, JK, JL), Cherokee XJ, IHC International Scout. The DANA 44 adapters included in the kit allow safe servicing of ball joints and pins in these vehicles without dedicated specialist tools (a separate kit would cost €115–€230).
Will the sleeves fit my vehicle?
The 3 sleeves (Ø44/50, Ø57/63, Ø70/76 mm) cover 95% of ball joints and control arm bushings in passenger cars and vans up to 3.5 t. Check the ball-joint or bushing diameter in your vehicle's parts catalogue — it will most likely fall within one of these ranges. For unusual vehicles (heavy trucks, agricultural machinery) we recommend checking before purchase.
Is it covered by the manufacturer's commercial warranty?
KraftMüller does not declare an additional commercial warranty beyond the EU legal standard. For a tool with a longer commercial warranty (36 months JBM, 24 months Hogert) please check other products in our catalogue.
Does the case protect against corrosion?
The moulded plastic case with foam inserts protects the set against mechanical damage and moisture during transport. For long-term storage (more than 6 months without use) we recommend applying preservative grease to the draw bolt.
